treehousegang | open to EVERYONE, even those he hasn't met yet

[ baein has been busy the past weeks, cooping himself up in his little cottage when he hasn't been to the treehouse to welcome the new life into the world along with everyone else. and he already left something behind for the little one, but the truth of it all is that's not the only gift he's been preparing.

it feels like it's the only thing he can do.

christmas isn't really something he ever celebrated back when he was still just baein, stuck going to a university for a degree he didn't care for. when jasper and princess were the only bright things in his life, and thinking back on that time now it feels so long ago and a little faded, if not a memory with his boyfriend in it. now... now jasper is there, but also not, and baein is so melded with the forest he never quite feels alone in a sense of the word. (until he does feel a little lonely sometimes.)

the ruinwood is his home. and it's made him part of it in a way he'd never anticipate in his life. and yet, it still doesn't feel like it's finished with him.

back to the present, it is yuletide, christmas, or more importantly now than ever, it's the time around the winter solstice, and baein emerges from his hidey-hole with a bundle of soft things in his arms, heading for the treehouse. (maybe it's also to steal a hug from someone. what? he's touch starved half the time he's alive and he just wants a cuddle please and thank you.)

this time around, he knocks on the door with his elbow instead of walking right in, hands too occupied trying to balance the load in his arms. ]

Whoouups—

[ he stumbles slightly with wide eyes before righting himself, and then calls out. ]

[ smirking softly he leans up from his comforter trap and kisses him again but this time on the mouth.

Light. Gentle. Warm. ]

There. Now I win.

Oh no... I admit defeat. I couldn't win against you.

[ despite his playful words, baein has a light flush across his cheeks. he takes a breath and then he huffs. it's just that, gentle and easy, and maybe his chest constricts a bit when he reminds himself why that is, beyond the obvious fondness he has for the fox. he decides not to dwell on it for too long though, and instead shuffles around a bit, moving to tug koa to his feet. ]

C'mon. Up you go. The floor is nice, but I think I'd rather cuddle on the bed.

[ Mm, you can pretend if you want but he can tell there’s something more going on in that head of yours.

He pushes at the comforter a bit so he won’t trip on it when Baein pulls him up.

Snagging the comforter on the way he studies the other and tips his head curiously and moves to drape the fabric back over the bed. ]

Are you sure? Something just happened up here…

[ he gently taps Baeins forehead with a finger. ]

I can change back if it’s…awkward.

[ blinking slowly at the touch, baein studies koa's face before he smiles a little and shakes his head. he's not sure what he thinks about the fact that the fox is almost seeing right through him when baein would rather keep it muddy, even for himself. ]

A lot of things happen up there. As they probably do for everyone. I would rather just ignore it and feel the moment.

[ baein tugs koa in for a hug, unprompted, relaxed. ]

It's not awkward, don't worry.

[ koa blinks at the sudden hug but he warms and wraps himself around him a little more.

He can tell there’s a lot of good inside of this one and he wants to protect that in whatever way he can. Nothing is even really asked for in return. Except for a place to sleep. ]

Okay. Then get your sneaky butt in bed.

Should I call it an accomplishment to be called sneaky by a fox~?

[ baein grins at him as he pulls away enough to flop over on the bed and rearrange the comforter so he can tug koa in with him as well. ]

Clearly. Just don’t tell anyone.

[ he huffs softly but smirks. He’d had ever intention of taking the tea cups back to the kitchen but he doesn’t fight that tug as much he he could.

His tail swishes and he tucks under the comforter to get comfortable. ]

Mm... your secret is safe with me.

[ the tea cups can wait, there's no harm in leaving them out for the night. baein reaches up to scritch behind one of koa's ears. ]

[ good. Good. No one needs to know all of that.

He does drag Baein closer when he starts to scratch at his ear, though. It feels nice even if he doesn’t usually let people…pet him. ]

Is this okay? Sorry, I didn't even ask...

[ even if koa seems to enjoy it, baein had just been so comfortable he didn't think about that he might not be. ]

[ content enough that his eyes are even closed he nods a little against the pillow and gives an amused hum…]

I would have already bitten you if it wasn’t really okay, Baein.

[ the ear gives a pointed flick. ]

[ he resumes the scritches, then. ]

Good. Be assertive.

[ cracking an eye open he looks at Baein and smirks. ]

Do you want me to bite you?

[ he blinks, smile not disappearing but still with wider eyes. ]

Oh? Did I do something for you to bite me?

Nothing bad.

Well, I'd hope I never do. Something bad, I mean.

[ somewhere at the back of his mind, baein thinks about the implications and what that kind of statement would mean, at least for a fox. or... well, the world they live in, leastwise. ]

[ leaning in closer he does nip the tip of Baeins nose before snuggling down again. ]

Sleep before you start overthinking stuff and float away on me.

[ he can't help the little laugh that slips out, but he burrows down into the bed more, closer to koa. ]

Float away?

Mhm. Where you go somewhere else instead of being with me. Present.

[ he takes a breath and closes his eyes. ]

Once you’re asleep you can go wherever you want.

You mean I zone out...?

[ he blinks a little at koa, lips parted in slight confusion before he closes his eyes. perhaps he should be concerned, but... ]

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware.

It isn’t bad. I just like your attention. It’s a selfish thing, really.

Hmm... I'll pay you more attention, then. Then again, you're a little difficult to ignore.

[ baein smiles at him again ]

It’s the ears.

[ he yawns and noses in close.]
